IBM Cloud

Pragma Edge Cloud workload migration offers taking your on-premise solution and moving to cloud. Pragma Edge developed framework and accelerators to migrate your workload/applications to cloud without having to reinvest into the hardware and pay the premium for the software moving to SAAS.

Read the following IBM Cloud frequently asked questions and answers.

Various migration tools are available, including the following types:

  • SaaS (software as a service)
  • Open source
  • Batch processing

Be sure to choose tools that are compatible with your operating systems and platforms. It is also important to look for tools that provide monitoring, reporting, and graphing capabilities that enable your project managers to track and document the progress of your cloud migration.

Digital transformation is another driver of cloud migration trends. Organizations are turning to cloud infrastructures to accelerate their digitization plans to spur innovation, hone go-to-market strategies, and enhance customer experience. Companies are leveraging the elasticity of the cloud to accelerate development projects to introduce new services and products in their respective markets.

Moving data to and from cloud infrastructures poses some security risks. To address these risks, choose your network connections carefully, opting for a secure private connection to handle particularly sensitive data, and ensure their cloud providers have the tools, practices, and policies in place to comply with relevant security requirements.

IBM Cloud Migration Services offer highly efficient tooling and service capabilities to streamline the migration process. Automation helps avoid the need for manual agents and reduces costs. As a result, your organization can begin capitalizing on the benefits of a hybrid cloud more quickly.

With IBM Cloud® service endpoints, you can connect to IBM Cloud services over the IBM Cloud private network. Moving these workloads from the public network offers two advantages:

  • Services are no longer served on an internet-routable IP address. It is becoming increasingly common for cloud consumers to want limited or no access to the public internet from any of their services. Now with the service endpoint feature, service teams can create an interface over the private network for their service that customers can use to connect. Internet access is no longer a requirement for you to connect to IBM Cloud services.
  • There are no billable or metered bandwidth charges on the private network. In the past, you were billed for egress bandwidth when talking to an IBM Cloud service.

Calculating cost is one of the most challenging aspects of cloud migration. There is a tendency to underestimate the expenses incurred by the full process. With that in mind, make sure to not only consider the costs of migrating workloads but also the tools and services involved in the transition.

Wanclouds’ SaaS-based platform, called VPC+, automates the entire process of migrating customers to IBM Cloud. This self-driven and automated approach — with the option of having expertly guided support from Wanclouds — allows IBM customers to migrate their resources to IBM Cloud VPC at a fraction of the typical migration time and cost.

Make sure your migration strategy also includes a communication component to not only keep all stakeholders abreast of the progress of the migration but also define their specific roles and responsibilities in the project.

To be effective, your migration plan should include the following elements:

  • Workloads being migrated
  • Migration priorities and sequence
  • Timetable
  • Definition of processes and roles
  • Performance metrics
  • Stakeholder communication

When you migrate a service instance from a Cloud Foundry org and space to a resource group, a new linked service instance is created in the resource group. The original instance in the Cloud Foundry org and space becomes an alias. The alias counts towards the quota for your organization, but you’re billed for using the service instance in the resource group.

Service instances are migrated one at a time when you’re notified on the Resource list page by the icon that is associated with your Cloud Foundry service instance.

  • A user must have the Developer role in the Cloud Foundry space or the Organization manager Cloud Foundry role in the organization to which the instance belongs.
  • A user must have at least the Viewer IAM role for managing the resource group to which the instance is going to be migrated.
  • A user must have at least the Editor IAM role on the service.
